The Cincinnati Reds are interested in the 40 year old free agent Gary Sheffield, but only if he accepts limited role. Manager Dusty Baker said that Sheffield could pinch hit and fill in at first base or in the outfield for Cincinnati. Any team can sign Sheffield for the 400,000 minimum, with Detroit paying his $14 million salary. Rufus Williams, Gary Sheffield's agent, would not say exactly how many clubs are interested in Sheffield, but he did say "several team." Sheffield is also only one shy of becoming the 25th player in Major League history to have 500 home runs. In the two seasons with the Tigers, Sheffield batted .247 and averaging 22 home runs and 66RBIs. Do the Cincinnati Reds really need Gary Sheffield?
